Through their design studio Gravina, three ESDi alumni, Gennís Senén Gilabert, Oliver Torres Fernández and Albert Trèmul Ferrús, were considered by the online publication DiarioDESIGN as part of the 10 most important emerging designers that are succeeding locally and internationally. The Catalan studio, which recently participated in the Stockholm Furniture Fair, one of the most important furniture fairs in Europe, has a seven-piece collection, with designs that achieve different functionalities, oriented equally towards comfort and practicality. Their model Morris, for instance, is a mobile auxiliary table made with perforated metal plates, with the role of platters, and oak legs. Tori, meanwhile, is a dining room chair made with wood, which takes its structure for the pairing between curved shapes and vertical straight lines, dominant within Japanese architecture. Tempo, another auxiliary table, but fixed, is made with coupled steel plates, and wooden lids, while the wall mirror Toro gives the user the opportunity to rotate the device on a magnetized wooded surface. The light fixtures, Martes and Bruma, were also present, with characteristics that allow them to regulate the intensity and direction of the light. One of them, Martes, designed as a table, has interchangeable glass pieces, while the other one, Bruma, is a hanging light with three paper or fabric screens. Busy, finally, is a multiple USB charger that achieves the delicate balance between technology and aesthetics. During their participation in the Stockholm Furniture Fair, the three designers were part of the Greenhouse segment, a space within the fair especially dedicated to promoting new talents. Even if they participated in a Scandinavian fair, Senén considers their style is more akin to the Mediterranean one. “Scandinavian designs are soberer, especially in shapes and colors, our designs have plenty of color. Moreover, our stand had more interaction thanks to graphic supports that were done by the design studio Clase”, from Barcelona, the designer added. Before creating Gravina with his former classmates, Senén was awarded with the ADI-FAD Golden Medal for his ESDi final project “Xai”, a rug/bassinet for babies from 0 to 0 months to rest and play. The project was also exhibited in the Artesania de Catalunya premises, and in the event “El millor disseny de l’any” from the Disseny Hub.
